Hi Phil, the parts of all Build & Play series models have already been separated from the sprues in factory in order to allow young modelers to start assembly immediately. These kits are "children-proof", so-to-speak. If the parts still were on a sprue the builder (= kid) would have to use sharp tools to cut them off, so there would be a risk of injury. By providing the parts separated Revell makes sure that this risk is non-existent. A big plus is that the parts are big and immediately recognizable, so there is little danger to confuse anything. It's like a big Kinder Surprise Egg, but without the chocolate:
